1. Project Overview

This project is part of the construction of a new LNG terminal in Brunsbüttel, a strategic industrial and energy infrastructure development. The civil works package represents a major construction scope, requiring strong coordination between engineering, execution, planning, quality control, and site supervision.

The assignment started in the engineering office, where the focus was on the development and coordination of precast concrete elements and the execution preparation of in-situ concrete works. This early involvement in the design and engineering phase created a strong connection between what was calculated, drawn, planned, and later executed on site.

From September to January, the work was carried out within the engineering office of the main civil contractor. The role then evolved into on-site representation, supervising the execution of the concrete works and ensuring that the engineered solutions were correctly translated into safe, practical, and high-quality construction on site.

The strength of this project lies in the full-cycle involvement: from engineering preparation to real construction execution.

2. Scope of Works

The scope included both engineering support and site supervision for critical civil works within a complex industrial construction environment.

The works included:

  • Engineering support for the civil works package

  • Coordination of precast concrete elements

  • Technical follow-up of precast element design and execution requirements

  • Preparation and coordination of in-situ concrete execution

  • Review and support of execution methods

  • Interface management between engineering office and construction site

  • Site representation during execution

  • Supervision of in-situ concrete works on site

  • Follow-up of technical drawings, execution details, and construction constraints

  • Coordination with site teams, engineers, subcontractors, and project stakeholders

  • Quality, planning, and constructability follow-up

A major added value was the ability to understand the project from both sides: the engineering office, where the technical solutions are developed, and the construction site, where these solutions must be executed under real conditions.

This dual role allowed for better communication, faster technical decision-making, and stronger control over the execution of the concrete works.

The project demonstrates the ability to contribute to a large-scale civil engineering package within a demanding energy infrastructure environment. With a civil works budget of approximately €135 million, the project required a high level of technical precision, coordination, and responsibility.

The added value lies in the combination of engineering knowledge and hands-on site supervision. By being involved first in the design and preparation phase, and later in the execution phase, the role ensured continuity between engineering intent and practical construction delivery.
